Gary Woodland has a “big fight ahead” of him in his battle with PTSD.

The golfer revealed earlier this year he had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the bouts of anxiety he has suffered since undergoing surgery on a brain tumour in 2023, and he hopes he can encourage others in similar situations to “keep fighting”.

Speaking after claiming his first PGA Tour title in more than six years at the Houston Open, he told Golf Monthly magazine: “Anyone who’s struggling with something, I hope they see me and don’t give up, just keep fighting.

“We play an individual sport out here, but I wasn’t alone.

“I’ve got a lot of people behind me – my team, my family, and this golf world.

“I’ve got to keep healing.

“I’ve got a big fight ahead of me and I’m going to keep going but I’m proud of myself right now.”

Gary feels “blessed” to still be pursing his dream, despite his health struggles in recent years.

He said: “I’m blessed to be able to chase my dreams, there’s no doubt about that.

“I know it’s hard, but life is hard, right? Everybody’s battling something.

“From when I was diagnosed with this thing on my brain, the whole thing was I wasn’t going to let it win.

“Houston was evidence of that.”
