Tony Mowbray has insisted he is “ready” to be back at work.
The 62-year-old coach has returned to Blackburn – who he first managed between 2017 and 2022 – after battling bowel cancer in 2024, and while he noted he “lives with different circumstances now”, he doesn’t feel the lasting effects of his illness will be a “problem” for his career.
He told The Times: “I live with different circumstances now, but I’ve got no problem sharing it.
“I have a colostomy bag. So that changes your life.
“But as long as you are disciplined and you manage things, it’s not a problem. I have to be wary of eating at certain times, doing things at certain times.
“I’ve been recuperating from my illness, of course. I’m not silly. If I wasn’t ready, I wouldn’t be back. It’s not fair on Blackburn Rovers. It wouldn’t be fair on the fans or the team, if I was lacking energy.”
Tony – who spent three months at the helm of West Bromwich Albion last year – previously didn’t feel it was the “right thing” for him to leave his Teesside home to work at aother club.
He said: “I had four or five offers from other clubs during my recuperation and at that time I didn’t feel I was ready. I didn’t think it was the right thing for me to do to move away from home, move away from your family, go and live in a flat somewhere and try and dedicate your life to try and make your football team better.
“But as long as I’ve got the energy to do the job, and I know I have, and I manage that, then I’m going to be fine.”
