Tyrrell Hatton is “amazed” at the way other golfers are able to “shrug off” bad shots.
The British golfer has gained notoriety for his explosive tantrums when his game isn’t going the way he’d hoped, but he thinks his behaviour is “normal”.
He told Golf Monthly magazine:” The thing people don’t seem to get is that I only ever get angry or upset at myself.
“Everything that comes out is channelled directly at me, as a reaction to whatever I’ve just done wrong.
“Everyone knows I get petty angry on the course.
“I like to think that’s normal for everyone who plays golf. No one enjoys hitting bad shots.
“Some people can shrug it off, which amazes me.
“I feel like I’m pretty solid at losing my rage.
“So yeah, I can scream and shout a bit, and chunter on for a while occasionally.
“But it never lasts very long, usually just until the next shot.”
But Tyrrell admitted he would be “horrified” if he discovered his behaviour had had a negative impact on fellow players.
He said: “I’d be horrified if I thought my behaviour was affecting my playing partners or putting them off in any way.
“But I can genuinely say I’ve never had any complaints on that score.
“The rest of the guys seem to laugh and think, ‘Aye, aye, Tyrrell’s off on another one.’
“They probably feel if I’m letting things get to me it’s one less guy they’ve got to worry about beating.”
Tyrrell has no plans to work on his temperament.
He said: “Everyone says you can’t be perfect, but I try to be perfect every shot I hit.
“I have high standards and I get frustrated when I don’t meet those standards.
“So generally, I’m always going to wear my heart on my sleeve and give it 100 per cent.
“That’s never, ever going to change.”
