Alex Nankivell wants to make his friends and family proud.

The New Zealand-born Munster player admitted the support of his club’s fans means a lot to him, but the most important thing is impressing his loved ones.

Asked what he is most proud of, he told Rugby World magazine: “Representing my friends and family because if they’re proud of me, that’s the most important thing.

“There’s a lot of external factors when playing for Munster, definitely with the supporters, who are so passionate.

“They mean a lot to me, but the most important thing is me representing my friends and family.

“There are the people that love me and have followed my journey.

“When I played for the Maori All Blacks, that was special. We had just found my dad’swhakapapa [lineage] on his Maori side, so it was pretty cool to represent them, and where our family come from.”

Alex hopes he will always be remembered as an open and interested person.

Asked how he wants to be remembered, he said: “As an engaged person who takes an interest in people and their stories, and who doesn’t take things too seriously.

“I like to talk to people, get to know them and learn about the things they do, and their experiences. Hopefully that shines through.”
