Carlos Alcaraz will make his return from injury at the US Open.

The Spanish tennis ace hasn’t played competitively since April due to a wrist injury but will return to the court for the defence of his title at Flushing Meadows when the final Grand Slam of the year begins later this month.

The news was announced by football transfer influencer Fabrizio Romano in a joint Instagram post with Alcaraz.

The seven-time major champion also wrote Romano’s “here we go!” catchphrase in an X post that featured an American flag emoji and a plane.

Alcaraz became the youngest male player to complete the career Grand Slam when he won the Australian Open earlier this year but he was subsequently forced to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon due to the injury that he sustained at the Barcelona Open.

The world number three will get the chance to resume his rivalry with Jannik Sinner when he makes his comeback in New York and he previously explained that he was determined to maintain an amicable relationship with the Italian ace.

Alcaraz told Vanity Fair magazine: “We’re showing the world that we can be on court and give our best, and try to do the most possible damage to each other while playing, try to beat each other, and then, off court, just be two guys who get along really well.

“We are fighting for the same goal, but there’s no need to hate each other because we want the same thing.”

Meanwhile, the sports star feels that it is too soon to compare his rivalry with Sinner to some of the great duels to have taken place in the sport’s past.

Alcaraz said: “It’s not comparable to the historic rivalries that have happened in tennis, because we both have so many years ahead. Hopefully, we will continue playing against each other many times, at many finals, and that we will split the greatest tournaments.”
