Anna Nordqvist has hailed being Europe’s captain for the Solheim Cup the “honour of a lifetime”.
The 38-year-old golfer made her debut in the tournament back in 2009 and was vice-captain two years ago and now, for her 10th competition, she is thrilled to be taking the reins of the team.
She told Bunkered magazine: “Being the captain for the European team is a dream come true.
“It is an honour of a lifetime.
“I love this event. It means a lot to me and my family, and I know they are looking forward to it as much as I am.
“I have so many incredible memories and have made lifelong friends.”
Although she won’t be a playing captain, Anna has been competing alongside other Solheim Cup hopefuls and admitted that’s very useful for her team selection.
She said: “I pay attention, probably more than they realise, and being out on tour full time I have direct access to all the players and the caddies, so it’s easy to have conversations and be approachable and know what’s going on.”
The squad is set to have a fresh feel to it.
Anna said: “This team is definitely going to be different from previous years with Madelene Sagstrom absent because of having a baby and Georgia Hall just coming back from maternity leave.
“It will be the first Solheim Cup in the last nine I will not be teeing it up and some younger girls coming out on tour will hope to play their way onto the team.”
