Pierre Gasly has been reinstated in third place at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Frenchman had been dropped to seventh place after the face finished after exceeding the pit lane speed limit by 0.1km/h, which resulted in a five second penalty, with one of five drivers penalised for the same issue during the race.
His Alpine team appealed against the decision, arguing that cars could legally drive a shorter distance then officials had calculated.
The stewards accepted the argument, which was backed up by data and determined Gasly never went over the 60km/h limit.
The teams of the other drivers who were penalised didn’t appeal the decision, despite believing they didn’t go over the limit.
In a statement the stewards said: “Race control promptly came back to the stewards stating it had made enquiries of the official timekeepers and was told that there was no issue and that the data was therefore accurate.”
The verdict revealed they had questioned the high number of penalties for speeding.
The speed limit for the pit lane is determined using timing loops and the time taken to travel a certain distance along the lane.
In the report, it’s noted that changes to the pit lane for 2026 mean the shortest possible route between loops was 77cm less than the distance used in calculating the limit.
Five of the six offences in the race were 0.1km/h over the limit, meaning it’s been ruled Gasly didn’t exceed it.
