Rory McIlroy has hailed 2025 as “the year of [his] dreams”.

The 36-year-old golfer broke his 10-year drought in the majors to become only the sixth player to achieve the career grand slam, winning The Open Championship, U.S. Open, PGA Championship and Masters Tournament, but he “hopes” that doesn’t mark the peak of his game.

He told Today’s Golfer magazine: “It was the year of my dreams quite frankly.

“I’ve waited so long to try to complete that career grand slam, so to finally get over that line… But then also all of the other stuff; winning a Player’s Championship and being part of a European Ryder Cup team to win in America was something that I really wanted to do and be a part of.

“Hopefully it’s not, but it could well go down as the highest point or the best year of my career.

“I still don’t feel I’m finished yet, and it would be nice to have similar years in the future, but I’ll always look back on 2025 and think it was the top, or if not, very near the top of what I’ve done in the game.”

Despite his pride in his success, Rory admitted he felt “a bit directionless” after finally winning The Masters last year.

He said “I’ve always been a goal setter and I feel like I can get a little bit lost if I don’t have a direction or something that I’m striving towards.

“And honestly, I’d say for the couple of months after the masters, I felt a bit directionless.”
