Lando Norris says that F1 fans should be prepared for “chaos” in races in 2026.

The new season will mark the first year of the sport’s biggest-ever regulation change and McLaren’s world champion thinks that there will be more unpredictability with drivers having a greater say in terms of their performance.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Norris said: “You’re going to see more chaos in races where a driver has to be a little bit more on top of all of these different situations that can happen.

“And that will happen through the whole year, I would say. There’s more emphasis on drivers’ ability to control all of these things.”

Norris won his first world title after prevailing in a tense battle with McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen last year and has set his sights on retaining his crown.

He said: “If I don’t achieve something again, I always have something that I’m very proud about. If anything, I enjoyed last year a lot – and of course I really want to do it again.”

The British racer’s strong form in the second half of the season was key to his title win and he is determined to try and improve further when his title defence begins in Australia next month.

Norris said: “I’m always trying to improve on my things. I know there’s still areas that I’m not at the level I need to be – and it’s still a good level – but when you’re fighting these guys, you need to be close to perfection.

“There’s still plenty of things that I want to work on and I want to be better on, but the baseline level of where I’m at now is already pretty good.”

The 11-time race winner added: “My motivation to win is exactly the same. I’ve definitely not lost anything and, if anything, I think I just have more confidence because I’ve said in interviews and stuff in the past that I’m very much a guy who has to see something to believe it, especially when it’s anything to do with myself.”
