Matt Fitzpatrick is desperate to win another major.
The English golfer triumphed at the US Open in 2022 and has set his sights on winning another of golf’s blue riband events as he feels they are the tournaments that “separate the greats of the game from everyone else”.
Fitzpatrick told Golf Monthly magazine: “I’d love another major. Obviously, everyone wants majors because they’re the pinnacle of the game.
“But in a dream world, if I could just get one more that would be a really nice feeling, and then just more wins overall.”
The world number four added: “World No. 1 is obviously something that I would want to achieve, too. But the majors are things, for me, that separate the greats of the game from everyone else.
“If I could pick up one more it would be incredible, but if I don’t, I’d still look back on my career very fondly because I achieved a lot of things that I could have only dreamed of really.
“Hopefully, I’ve still got a long way to go but that would be the goal.”
Fitzpatrick reached a career-high ranking of world number three earlier this year but is aware that he has a lot of work to do if he is to usurp the leading pair of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
Asked about becoming world number one, the golfer said: “The goal is obviously to get there, but I like to feel that I’m a realist.
“I don’t feel like it’s within touching distance at the minute, but you never know. The goal is to get to number one at some point in my career.
“Obviously, Scottie is an incredibly good player, so he’ll be a hard man to catch.”
