Shea Charles has become the most expensive Northern Ireland footballer of all time.

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed for Fulham from Southampton in a deal worth up to £30m, which includes £26m up front with the rest in performance-related add-ons.

He told the club’s website: “I’m buzzing to finally get it over the line. The club has got a really good foundation, from the bottom to the top really.

“It’s a great club, with a really good vision – the manager explained that to me. To be here is a massive privilege.

“I hope to really kickstart my Premier League career. At such a good club as well, it’s perfect for me, and hopefully perfect for the fans as well.”

Charles, who started his career at Manchester City, has agreed a five-year contract at Craven Cottage.

He’s the club’s third signing since new manager Alvaro Arbeloa joined following an interim spell at Real Madrid during the 2024/25 campaign.

As well as breaking the record for a Northern Ireland player, he’s also Fulham’s third most expensive signing.

Gonzalo Garcia, who joined from Real Madrid earlier in this window, and former Shakhtar winger Kevin both cost around £34m.

Fulham have one pre-season fixture left, against German side Stuttgart this weekend, before welcoming Chelsea to Craven Cottage on August 24 to start their Premier League campaign.

Last season, Fulham finished 11th, just two points short of the Europe League spots.
