Conor Benn has promised to “cause havoc” against Ryan Garcia next month.
The 29-year-old star is set for his first career world title fight when he challenges the 28-year-old WBC welterweight champion in Las Vegas on September 12, and the British boxer has laid down the gauntlet ahead of the massive clash.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s all just noise. It doesn’t really concern me, doesn’t bother me. I’m just coming there to take his title off him.
“I plan on going in there and getting a stoppage, for sure. I’m just going to go in there and do what I do, which is plant one on his chin and try and put him to sleep.
“I prepare diligently hard and always put the work in. I’ve taken it with both hands and I’m coming in there to cause havoc.”
Benn is hoping he can follow in his dad Nigel’s footsteps by capturing the same WBC belt he held between 1992 and 1995.
He added: “For me to get a world title shot, the prestigious WBC world title, the belt my dad won, it’s a blessing.
“That’s not my driving factor. My driving factor is to do it for myself. It’s for me to prove that I’m one of the best in the world.”
Benn feels like he thrives as “the underdog”, and he’s not fazed by facing a formidable opponent in Garcia.
He said: “All the pressure I’ve had early on in my career has prepared me for nights like those at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“It’s prepared me for the noise and the drama and the chaos. So come September 12, it’s nothing new, nothing different.”
