Leah Williamson thinks it would be a “big mistake” to leave Arsenal.

The 29-year-old England captain has been with the London club since she was just eight years old, winning nine trophies over the year, and while she thinks people should typically move around over two decades, she’s very content to stay so recently signed a two-year contract extension.

She told FourFourTwo magazine: “I’ve been here 20 years. I don’t think anyone should stay in one place for 20 years – that’s my honest belief – but the way I feel here, it would be a big mistake to turn your back on something so good.

“When I signed my contract, a major thing was that I care about the people here.

“I know the stewards, the security guards, the guy that lets me in on the gate every day.

“I want to give that love back to the people who take care of us.”

Leah has always felt a sense of community at Arsenal.

She said: “[Arsenal] is a value as well as an emotion.

“People have always said Arsenal do things the right way. Part of that feeling is pride, community and fairness.

“That’s what I’ve felt growing up. I come from a split household, Spurs and Arsenal.

“No slight on Spurs, but I felt that ‘feeling’ from the minute I stepped into Highbury as a player.

“It’s another family here, 100 per cent.

“And my family were welcomed into this.”
