Patrick Reed used to wear the Green Jacket “around the house” after winning the Masters.

The US golfer claimed victory at the 2018 tournament and he admitted any opportunity he could don the prestigious garment, he did – even if he was just running errands.

He told Bunkered magazine: “Any time I could wear it, I’d wear it, especially around the house.

“I mean, it’s one of those things that, not only is it very special to myself and my family, but to allow other people to experience it and see the Green Jacket.

“I mean, I didn’t even realise I had it on when I went to Chick-fil-A.

“When I picked up the kids, they’re like, ‘Hey dad, can we get chicken nuggets and French fries?’ I was like, yeah, sure.

“I pulled through the drive-thru and the guy’s like, ‘Green jacket!’ I looked at him like, yeah, oops!. I didn’t even realise I had it on.

“It’s just moments like that. You only have it for a year. It was awesome to wear it round town and show it off.”

Patrick admitted it was nice to have a reminder of his achievement because the game is often hard.

He said: “I think I travelled with it to every event I played that year, and it’s just one of those reminders of what you’ve done, what you’ve accomplished.

“Because, let’s be honest, to win a major, I don’t care what major it is and when you do it, the amount of adversity you face that entire week, there’s always a lot, whether it’s bad swings, bad breaks, you have a body that doesn’t feel great here, that doesn’t feel great there.

“There’s always stuff that goes on, but the guy who wins it is not only able to manage those and everything, but also is able to capitalize on either the good breaks or the quality golf shots.”
