Andy Robertson’s move to Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly stalled.
The 31-year-old Liverpool left-back has been lined up for a £5 million move to the London club, but it hinged on the Reds finding suitable cover for his position, with Konstantinos Tsimikas not yet recalled from his Roma loan move.
According to Sky Sports News, the move is “looking more unlikely” with just days left before the end of the transfer window this weekend.
The £5m deal wasn’t an issue for the clubs, given Liverpool’s relationship with Robertson and the fact that he’s out of contract this summer.
However, captain Virgil Van Dijk admitted over the weekend that he’s hopeful his vice captain and teammate – who is looking for more regular football – will stay at Anfield.
He said: “Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay but whatever happens, let’s see.”
However, he refused to speculate on whether or not Robertson will feature against Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Qarabag on Wednesday (28.01.26).
Van Dijk simply replied: “That’s not on me, is it?”
Similarly, manager Arne Slot wouldn’t comment on whether not the star would be with the club by the end of January.
He said: “What do you think my answer is going to be? Have I ever said anything about transfers in front of these microphones.
“My answer is always the same and it’s quite boring to always give the same answer – we don’t talk about transfers in public.”
The Scotland captain has only made four starts in the Premier League this season, but he did come on at half-time to replace Milos Kerkez in the Reds’ shock loss to Bournemouth over the weekend.
He first signed for Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million, and he’s gone onto make 364 appearances, during which time he’s won nine trophies.
