Scottie Scheffler hates losing.

The US golfer admitted his “key motivation” in tournaments is his drive to win but if he misses out, he tries not to be too hard on himself afterwards.

Asked how much work he does on the mental aspects of his game, he told Golf Monthly magazine: “It’s more a case of me using the fact that I really, really do not like to lose.

“That’s my key motivation.

“You can’t afford to let losses affect you – there are so many great players in these events every week and only one guy can get the win, so it’s never good to be too harsh on yourself.”

Scottie would “love” to travel the world with his sport but feels it is important to stay in the US for the moment because of wife Meredith and their 16-month-old son Bennett.

He said: “I think the greatest competition we have right now in the game of golf is the PGA Tour.

“Playing in the States, I’m playing where the best competition is.

“Week in and week out, I believe that’s the PGA Tour.

“For me, to play against the best players in the world, that’s where all of them are. “Would it be nice to play an international schedule? Yeah, I’d love to be able to travel the world and play golf.

“There’s a time and a place for that, and right now, with the way my life is, it’s not really the time or the place.

“I have a young family, and travelling across the world to play golf would be great, but at the end of the day, that’s not my priority or my responsibility.

“My responsibility is to my family first.”
