Tyson Fury says that his two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk are a part of “God’s plan”.
The British fighter – who is returning to the ring in April to take on Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov – had claimed in the aftermath of the two bouts that he had been robbed of victory but has now backtracked and expressed his admiration for the Ukrainian legend.
In a video uploaded to social media, Fury said: “My last two fights, I did not get the results I was after. Oleksandr (Usyk) got the results over me. Fair play to his team and everybody around it… it’s life lessons. In this life, you do not always get what you want. You do not always get what you think you want and what you think you did enough to get.
“However, that is where it stays. You do not here my crying about, ‘Oh my God, he cheated’. You do not hear any of that s*** because that is not me. There is no point in crying over spilled milk. Oleksandr is a fantastic fighter and a fantastic person.”
The Gypsy King added: “He is a God-fearing, Christian, family man, whom I respect to the utmost. And I wish all the best in his career. And if we ever get to share the ring again, fantastic. We have had two brilliant fights. Two brilliant close fights. He got W’s in both of them. But, we move on and I am ever thankful for the Lord for what he has given me and every road he has taken me down. It was not supposed to be for me over in Saudi Arabia. And, at the time, I was very hurt by that, I was thinking, ‘What has gone on here? How has this happened to me, God?’
“And I realised that everything is God’s plan and God’s timing. And I am just so thankful and so blessed to be in this position and on the verge of a massive return in 2026. Let’s not forget this big bad boy turned pro in 2008… a long time ago, and is still continuing. I am old, I am bald, I am slower, but I am still the ‘GK’. I am still the ‘Big Mac’… and the ‘Mac’ is returning. April 11, 2026. Where will you be?”
