Thomas Bjorn believes Tiger Woods is the “best player who has ever played golf”.
The 55-year-old Dane spent a lot of time with the legendary sportsman over the years and even if he wasn’t at his own best, he just enjoyed getting to see Tiger – who he beat to win the 2001 Dubai Desert Classic – in action.
He told Golf Monthly magazine: “I played so many practice rounds with Tiger at Majors after that Dubai win, and spent so much time with him.
“And I always looked at it as having the best seat in the house to watch the best player who has ever played.
“That’s a pretty cool place to be.
“Even if I didn’t play my best, I would enjoy watching him play the game to the exceptional levels that he could.”
Thomas and his fellow players knew they always had to be at their very best to take advantage of the rare times Tiger wasn’t turning out with his “A-plus game”.
He said: “We all knew at that time that when he showed up with his A-plus game, we wouldn’t beat him.
“He was superior to everyone else that he played against.
“But when he had those moments where his game was B-plus, you had to be there with your best to take advantage.
“I had that fortune situation in Dubai where I played with him for four rounds and I got to beat him going down to the last.
“At that time, I fancied that was the most impossible thing to do.
“So I took that with me as one of my greatest moments in the game.”
