Ruben Amorim is said to have clashed with Andre Onana in pre-season after the goalkeeper reportedly demanded a new contract on his return to Manchester United.

Amorim, 40, is said to have been left unimpressed when Onana, 29, asked for fresh terms despite enduring a difficult debut campaign in England.

According to The Athletic, the Cameroon international’s request “did not go down well” with the United manager.

The report claimed Onana returned to Carrington believing he deserved improved wages, having been hit by a 25 percent salary cut following the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League – a clause included in all United players’ contracts.

Onana made a series of high-profile mistakes last season as United slumped to their worst ever Premier League finish, ending the 2024–’25 campaign in 15th place.

Amorim responded by promoting Altay Bayindir for the opening three league fixtures this season.

Onana’s hopes of regaining his place diminished further with the £18.5 million signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

The Belgian was brought in after Bayindir himself committed costly errors in early matches.

United sources confirmed to The Athletic Onana remained in Amorim’s plans despite speculation over his future during the summer transfer window.

But the club opted to strengthen their goalkeeping department regardless, leading to heightened uncertainty over the former Inter Milan and Ajax player’s role.

Reports in Turkey have suggested United had agreed a deal to send Onana on loan to Trabzonspor.

The move is said to depend on the player’s approval, with the Turkish transfer window set to close on Thursday.

Onana joined United from Inter Milan in July 2023 in a deal worth £47.2 million, signed to replace long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea.

Before his time in Italy, he spent seven years at Ajax, winning three Eredivisie titles and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

Neither Onana nor Manchester United have commented publicly on the latest reports about his contract demands or the proposed loan switch to Trabzonspor.
