Rodrigo Isgro believes the COVID-19 pandemic helped his career.
The 26-year-old sportsman represented his native Argentina in rugby sevens at the Tokyo Olympics, which took place in 2021, and he thinks the tournament being delayed by a year because of the pandemic helped him secure a place in the squad.
He explained: “Had it not been for the pandemic, I might not have made the team for the Olympics as I was only starting and it takes time to adjust.
“That it was held a year later allowed me to work harder in the game, get more tournaments under my belt and prepare me better.”
Despite Gaston Revol being sent off against South Africa, Argentina won the bronze medal and Rodrigo regarded his prize as the “most important” thing he ever won.
He reflected: “That red card brought us together and gave us all that we had.
“I gave the medal to my family as it is theirs.
“It is the most important thing that I’ve won and as an object, it signifies all the work done in my life.”
Rodrigo found playing sevens a “very, very special” time in his life.
He said: “Sevens was the best thing that happened in my life, great friends, travel the world, good and bad moments, but all was very, very special.
“I am who I am as a person and player partly thanks to sevens and Santi [Gomez Cora].”
