Oliver McCall is keen to go on tour with Frank Bruno.

This week marked 30 years since the boxers went head-to-head in a fight at Wembley Stadium dubbed The Empire Strikes Back and the 60-year-old American – who lost the WBC heavyweight title he’d gained from Lennox Lewis the previous year when Bruno won on points – would love to mark the milestone with some special dinner events for fans.

He told Boxing News magazine: “I’d love to do that. This was his pivotal moment.

“I look at Bruno as a friend and I’m glad to have been part of it.”

McCall broke Mike Tyson’s record to be the oldest former heavyweight champion to have boxed professionally when he got in the ring aged 59 late last November and, having done so another two times, he’s keen to continue.

He said: “Hey, maybe I’ll come over to fight in London again.”

While McCall feels “blessed” to have fought Bruno at Wembley Stadium, he thinks his opponent had some advantages in being on home turf.

He said: “I ain’t taking nothing away from Bruno. He was one of the hardest punchers I ever fought…

“The referee let Bruno hold excessively in the later rounds, when I was whooping Bruno.

“But that’s how it is sometimes, that’s the politics of boxing when you’re in someone else’s backyard in another country.

“When the [unanimous] decision was announced, I felt regret. I felt like the things I’d experienced… there were things I’d participated in that I shouldn’t have.

“I’ve grown spiritually since then and I know now that I shouldn’t have put myself in those situations.

“But it was one of the biggest things in my life, as far as sports goes.

“I was blessed to be on that type of stage. Wembley Stadium was awesome.

“I look at some of the fights taking place there now and think, ‘Wow, I fought there.’ “
