Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked by Nottingham Forest.
The Portuguese coach has been axed by Forest just three games into the new Premier League season after what is believed to be a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Forest said in a statement: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.
“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
Nuno was appointed as Forest boss in December 2023 and guided the club to Premier League survival in his first season in charge.
The former Wolves and Tottenham boss then oversaw an impressive campaign last term as Forest qualified for the Europa League by finishing seventh in the Premier League – with the club now set to begin their first continental campaign in 30 years under the leadership of a new coach.
Nuno had only signed a new three-year contract at the club in June but speculation about his future started to swirl last month when he suggested that he and Marinakis were “not as close” since the arrival of Forest’s new head of football Edu Gaspar.
He also stated that “when there’s smoke, there’s fire” relating to reports that he was unhappy at the club.
Nuno had previously stated that he had no hesitation about speaking out against Forest chiefs.
He said: “I said it, and I don’t regret it. For me, it’s important that everyone at the club shares the same vision and same commitment. I have to speak to the owner.”
