Mikel Arteta believes that Manchester City can’t be ruled out in the Premier League title race.
The Citizens have slipped 11 points behind leaders Liverpool following a disastrous run that has seen them go seven games without a win in all competitions but the former City assistant coach is aware that the club and under-fire manager Pep Guardiola have the ability to turn the situation around.
Arsenal boss Arteta said: “It is a team that has the capacity to turn this around and win, win, win and win. Don’t rule them out because you know how much quality and the coach that they have.”
Arsenal entertain Manchester United in the Premier League on Wednesday (04.12.24) and Arteta refused to dismiss the prospect of a title bid for the Red Devils – even though they are 15 points behind the leaders.
He said: “We are still very early in the season, and any team that has got the capacity to put five or six wins in a row is going to be up there.
“It is so tough and you see every week how the teams are struggling to maintain winning, winning and winning. I think anything is possible.”
Arteta added: “You can see his (Amorim’s) fingerprints in what he wants to do straight away. He’s been very clear with what he wants to do.
“What he did with Sporting was remarkable after so many years. Especially the way he did it and the way his teams are playing.
“It brings energy to a new club and the players, which is always positive. But we have to focus on what we’re doing.”
