Mike Tyson has been ranked 309th in the BoxRec heavyweight standings following his defeat to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in their high-profile bout.

The Friday (15.11.24) clash marked the first professional fight for 58-year-old ‘Iron Mike’ since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride.

The clash with Paul, 27, showcased a stark age gap and difference in performance – with fight fans branding it a joke as neither opponent appeared to land a significant blow.

Tyson was outmatched but managed to go the distance, losing by decision.

Reflecting on the fight, the broker formerly branded the “baddest man on the planet”, said online: “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time.

“I almost died in June. Had eight blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”

The defeat places Tyson far below Paul, now ranked 126th. Tyson sits just three spots above Terrell Jamal Woods, a journeyman fighter with a record of 29-62.

Paul, in his post-fight interview, admitted holding back when it came to landing blows on Tyson.

He said when asked if he didn’t go in with full power: “Yeah, definitely, definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt somebody that didn’t need to be hurt.”

The fight drew mixed reactions, with some fans leaving AT and T Stadium before the decision was announced.

It still broke records with more than 60 million households streamed the event on Netflix, crashing the platform, and the fight generated a $18 million gate – doubling Texas’ previous combat sports record.

Paul’s performance even drew a challenge from light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, who posted: “@jakepaul… I’m always open to any suggestions.”
