Manchester United have agreed to a £35 million deal to sign Ederson.

The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder is set to leave Italian side Atalanta to join the Red Devils on a four-year deal, which will include an option to extend by a further 12 months.

As reported by BBC Sport, the star still needs to undergo a medical, and the transfer could be completed early next month in time for pre-season training.

Ederson, who missed out on a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad, will be United’s first signing since Michael Carrick was confirmed as its permanent head coach.

The team are looking to strengthen in the centre of the park given the departure of Casemiro, who will leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.

They could sign up to three midfielders, with Kobbie Mainoo standing out as their only senior option in that position.

United are said to be keen on West Ham star Mateus Fernandes, but the Hammers will want to make a substantial profit on last summer’s signing.

He cost them in excess of £40m, while he may be out his way out after their recent relegation.

United could also hit a stumbling block for another of their midfield targets.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson – who will be representing England at the World Cup this summer – is someone the club has been eyeing up.

However, it’s believed he would rather join their rivals Manchester City.

Elsewhere in the team, United are keen to sign another left-sided defended, and they are looking at the possibility of Newcastle fullback Lewis Hall.

Striking backup for Benjamin Sesko is also a priority, while the goalkeeping situation needs to be figured out.

Senne Lammens has impressed since signing in January, with former first-choice keeper Andre Onana reportedly told he can look for another club.

Meanwhile, Radek Vitek – who was a revelation on loan with Bristol City – has confirmed he would like to play regularly, rather than serve as a backup.
