Arne Slot has revealed Mo Salah will miss this weekend’s game against Brighton.
The Liverpool manager has given an update on the Egypt forward – who will also miss his national team’s friendly with Spain – after he asked to be substituted during the team’s 4-0 Champions League win against Galatasaray on Wednesday (18.03.26).
Speaking in a press conference on Friday (20.03.26), Slot said: “It’s unusual and as a result you can expect the outcome. He won’t be available for tomorrow.
“The good thing for us is that we go to an international break, the bad thing for Egypt is that he won’t be able to go.
“What Mo has shown in the past is that he can recover faster than other players might be able to in similar situations because he takes such good care of his body.”
Despite Salah’s quick recoveries, Slot noted that it doesn’t mean he’ll be fit for the FA Cup quarter final clash with Manchester City in a fortnight.
He added: “But it’s only two weeks until we go again so let’s hope in that period of time he can be back.”
Liverpool are hoping to find success in the FA Cup and Champions League, while their Premier League form finds them two points of the top four and four points behind rivals Manchester United, while any hopes of the defending champions retaining have been slim for a while.
Meanwhile, United boss Michael Carrick has admitted he isn’t sure whether or not Matthijs de Ligt will be available again before the end of the season.
The Dutch defender’s most recent appearance for the Red Devils came in November as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1, but he’s been absent ever since due to a back injury.
Asked on Thursday (19.03.26) if there’s a timeline for his return, Carrick said: “Honestly, it’s difficult to say. Just because it’s taken that much time.
“It’s one of those things, sometimes you think it’s alright and then all of a sudden it’s not quite right so we’re just kind of being patient and working through it and we’ll just have to see.
“We’re obviously giving time and trying to get him back as quick as we can but it’s really difficult to say.
“It’s like any injury, it’s trying to get the balance right. Some are a little bit more straightforward than others.”
