Liam Rosenior says he won’t let Chelsea’s season fall apart after their Champions League exit.

The Blues suffered a humbling 3-0 home defeat (8-2 on aggregate) to PSG in the second leg of their last 16 tie on Tuesday (17.03.26) and the coach will make sure his team puts the disappointment behind them as they battle for a place in Europe’s top competition next season.

Asked how he would ensure Chelsea remain on track, Rosenior said: “That’s my job. How I go about that is how we always go about it. We need to be resilient. We need to make sure go to Everton (at the weekend) with organisation, freshness and intensity.

“We want to be in this competition next season. If we perform as we can, we can get there without the individual mistakes that we’re making.”

The Blues had a mountain to climb with a 5-2 deficit from the first leg and Rosenior bemoaned defensive mistakes that put the tie out of reach in the early stages of the game at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “Six minutes in and another mistake. It takes the wind from our sails. The second goal is hit from 25 yards into the top corner.

“When you go two goals down so early and five down on aggregate, it’s really difficult. Obviously, we wanted to put up more of a fight than we did. Credit to PSG. Over the two legs they deserve to go through.”

Chelsea fans reacted with fury when Rosenior substituted attackers Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro in the second half but the manager felt the decision was necessary to protect the fitness of the pair.

He said: “If I don’t manage their minutes their likelihood of getting injured is increased very highly.

“I have to make really difficult decisions that at the time probably don’t look great to be honest. You never want to take off your best players when you’re five goals down. But I want to make the best decisions in the long term as well.”
