Justin Rose has a “lot of pride” in being able to still play well at the age of 45.
The 45-year-old golfer won a tense playoff against JJ Spaun to claim the FedEx Cup title last month and he believes the “golden summer” of his career is approaching.
He is quoted by Golf Monthly magazine as saying: “There’s a lot of pride in that. There’s a pretty short list of guys who are competitive in that 45 to 50 sort of age range.
“Historically it was a bit of a waiting room for the Champions Tour.
“Obviously Phil bucked the trend, he won a major at 51. I feel like that’s good motivation.
“I still feel there is that golden summer of my career available to me. That’s what I’ve been pushing for.
“Moments like getting close at Troon and obviously Augusta, they’re signals that it’s possible.
“This is another really important signal that I’m on the right track.”
Justin believes he’s still able to compete against the “best players in the world”.
He said: “I’ve been saying for some time now, when I bring my best, I know I’m good enough to play, compete, and now win against the best players in the world. Look at Augusta too.
“This win is very gratifying for me.”
