Justin Rose is still striving to improve.
The English golfer has enjoyed an excellent 2025 – winning another PGA Tour title at the FedEx St Jude Championship and contributing to Europe’s Ryder Cup win – and is still determined to become a better player at the age of 45.
Rose told Golf Monthly magazine: “I still love it.
“I still enjoy the work. Can I be better next year? In order to do the requisite work to get better, you need to believe you can be better next year. I think that’s what I’ve always had, that belief.”
Rose suffered an agonising play-off loss to Rory McIlroy at the Masters in April and is desperate to win another major to add to his 2013 US Open triumph.
The former world number one said: “I feel like if I was to win a Major now, at this stage of my career, it would feel like winning again for the first time.”
Rose believes that next year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale would be a fitting place to win, after he finished tied for fourth as a 17-year-old amateur when the major was held at the course back in 1998.
He said: “I played in 2008 and thought this must be written in the stars… and missed the cut.
“A lot of time has passed since then. But, I mean, if I was to write the perfect full-circle journey for myself, yeah, that would be it.”
Rose is one just a handful of players over 40 ranked in the world’s top 100, something that gives him “confidence” to carry on dedicating himself to the game.
He said: “I take a little bit of confidence from that.
“Clearly, it’s not easy. Keep believing, keep working hard, and unfortunately, keep making a record of sacrifices that are needed to play that level.”
