Jürgen Klopp is “not completely at the end” of his coaching career, raising the prospect of a return to management after stepping away from the dugout last year.

The former Liverpool manager, 58, has been out of frontline coaching since May 2024, when he ended a nine-year spell at the club citing fatigue.

He subsequently took on the role of head of global soccer at Red Bull in January 2025, overseeing the organisation’s network of teams.

Speaking at a Magenta event, Jürgen addressed speculation linking him with potential roles at Real Madrid and the German national team, while making clear that no immediate return has been arranged.

Jürgen said: “I’m quite advanced in life at my age, but as a coach I’m not completely at the end yet.”

He added: “I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the next few years? But nothing is planned right now.”

Reports have suggested Jürgen remains of interest to leading clubs and national sides.

Sports experts have indicated both Real Madrid and Germany could be potential destinations.

Real Madrid are understood to be assessing long-term options after appointing Alvaro Arbeloa as head coach in January following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso.

While the club are expected to revisit their managerial situation in the summer, Jürgen said he has not been approached.

Jürgen said: “Real Madrid had not called him once, not a single time.”

He added: “I’ll take over at Atletico Madrid as well, preferably at the same time. Sorry Madrid, you’ll have to ring first.”

Germany, meanwhile, remain under the management of Julian Nagelsmann, whose contract runs until 2028.

He is set to lead the national side into the summer’s World Cup, and his position is not expected to change unless he chooses to leave. Julian has also been linked with interest from Manchester United, potentially placing him in contention for club roles beyond international management.

Jürgen’s comments indicate while he is open to a return to coaching in the future, he is not actively pursuing a new role at present.

Jürgen is one of football’s most influential managers.

He led Borussia Dortmund to Bundesliga titles before transforming Liverpool, winning the Premier League and Champions League.

Renowned for his charisma and leadership, he stepped back from management in 2024 after nearly a decade at Anfield.
