Gary Wolstenholme still gets “goosebumps” over his famous victory over Tiger Woods.
The Englishman won on the 18th hole when both golfers made their Walker Cup debuts in 1995 and he knows it is something he will always be remembered for.
He told Bunkered magazine: “It still give me goosebumps.
“We shook hands and, suddenly, I was mobbed.
“It is one of those things that, if I end up having a tombstone, it will be chiselled on it, ‘The man who beat Tiger’.
“It has always been what I have been remembered for.”
Gary – who was beaten by Tiger the following day – tried and failed to strike up a bond with his fellow debutant.
He said: “I tried to engage him in conversation, it was part of my tactic I suppose in match play.
“But it didn’t work with him at all. He barely spoke to me the whole match.
“And certainly, I had to play him the second day as well, interestingly.
“And I didn’t really get anything out of him at all.
“He had an aura. I think he created it deliberately. That air of invincibility is part of what makes him who he is.”
