Frank Warren has revealed that Tyson Fury’s next opponent will be announced this week.

The promoter previously revealed that the former heavyweight world champion would box again before taking on Anthony Joshua in their long-awaited fight later this year and has confirmed that an announcement is imminent.

Warren told Sky Sports: “We’ll hopefully be in a position to announce it next week, that’s what we’re looking to do.

“So keep watching this space, and it’ll be a good opponent – it’ll be good for him. He can’t afford to slip up, because obviously AJ’s got his fight in a few weeks’ time.

“[Joshua’s] got to come through that, Tyson has to come through his, and then the big one will be in November.”

Joshua will take on Kristian Prenga in a tune-up fight in July and his promoter Eddie Hearn says that plans for the all-British bout could be scuppered if either fighter loses their warm-up clash.

The Matchroom chief told Sky Sports: “In my opinion if either fighter loses, you cannot do the fight.

“I will feel sick at the ringwalk on July 25. Especially with what AJ’s come back from. I mean there is that worry. Will he be the same? Everything we see in camp and in sparring lends us to suggest yes. But there’s a lot to overcome. That’s the importance of this fight as well in July.”

Hearn added: “Now we have signed to fight Tyson Fury. He has signed to fight Anthony Joshua. The only thing that stands in the way is July 25.”

Meanwhile, Warren confirmed that a new opponent will also be unveiled for rising British heavyweight star Moses Itauma -who is closing in on a world title shot.

The promoter said: “He’s fighting a top 10 heavyweight, we expect to get the fight we want to make over the line. Again, a great heavyweight fight.

“This division is on fire.”
