Derek Chisora believes it is the right time to retire because he is finding training “harder”.
The 42-year-old heavyweight has enjoyed a long career in the ring but he will hang up his gloves next month after he faces Deontay Wilder in his 50th and final fight, and he knows he’s made the right decision.
He told Boxing News magazine: “I don’t train the way I used to train.
“The older you get, the more you find things harder, you know? Running, training, recovery.
“So, I get it. It’s time.”
Derek – who turned professional in 2007 – is looking forward to spending more time with his family once he’s retired.
Asked his post-boxing plans, he said: “Take my kids to school and do homework. Sounds good, innit?”
Once his daughters’ school days are over, Derek is not sure what he will do but has trust in his faith.
He said: “I don’t know man. God has got a purpose for me. What purpose it is, I do not know.
“But I’ll just carry on with what I’ve been given.”
Looking back on his career, Derek has no regrets, even though he lost 13 times.
He said: “If I lost a fight, I lost a fight. It was not my day, that’s it.
“I don’t have regrets.
“We can’t cry over spilt milk. Hey, what am I going to do with that? It just depresses us.
“I don’t have regrets, I’ve enjoyed everything I have done in boxing – the good and the bad.”
