Daniel Dubois stares at Wembley Stadium’s arch and visualises his fight against Oleksandr Usyk as his battle ritual.
The 27-year-old IBF heavyweight and the 38-year-old unified heavyweight championship holder will exchange hard-hitting blows in a thrilling undisputed world title fight at the North London venue on July 19 and the British pugilist has a clear routine in his head in the lead-up to the clash.
He told talkSPORT.com: “Where I train, I can see the Wembley arches. I’m staring at them every day [visualising the fight].
“I’m not [superstitious]. Just normal. Everyone has that way about them, I’m more about routine.
“I’d walk by a black cat, white cat, it doesn’t matter.”
‘Triple D’ is looking to bag WBO, WBC and WBA titles as the he goes head-to-head with the Ukrainian for the second time.
Usyk knocked out Dubois with a stiff jab in the ninth round of their heavyweight world title fight in Wroclaw, Poland, in August 2023 – although the Brit did floor his rival with a punch that was controversially ruled as a low blow – and the IBF champion says he has grown as a competitor since.
He said: “I’ve changed. I’ve learnt from that.
“There were a lot of things going into that fight. I’ve learnt from it now. I’m going to put it right.
“There’s been a lot of pain from what happened last time. So I want to get my revenge.”
And the star is “nailing him to the canvas this time” and can smell sweet victory.
Dubois added: “When I close my eyes, I see a spectacular win, a spectacular knockout.”
