Alexander Isak has claimed that “not everyone has the full picture” of his transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool.
The Swedish striker moved to Anfield in a British record £125 million transfer on deadline day last week after a protracted saga and Isak has suggested that outsiders do not know everything about his acrimonious Magpies exit.
Speaking while on international duty with Sweden, he said: “Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s something for another day.
“I can’t control everything that’s said or written. But I’m happy that I became a Liverpool player.”
Isak came on as a late substitute as Sweden were beaten 2-0 by Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier on Monday (08.09.25) and was happy to be back on the pitch again after missing out in the early stages of the season in his attempts to force through a move to Liverpool.
He said: “It’s great that everything was settled before the camp and that I could focus on playing football again.
“It’s been a fairly new situation for me, but you always learn and develop mentally off the pitch as well.”
Despite the saga of his exit, Isak sent a message of thanks to Newcastle supporters after his departure was confirmed – after he helped the club win the Carabao Cup last season in what was their first domestic trophy for 70 years.
Isak said: “I want to express my gratitude to my team-mates, the staff and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together.
“Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs.
“It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years.
“Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”
