Sergio Aguero doesn’t “miss” playing football.
The 38-year-old striker hung up his boots in 2021 due to heart problems, after playing just four games for Barcelona, and while he sometimes thinks it would be “nice” to get back on the pitch, the former Manchester City ace is ultimately very happy with his life.
He told FourFourTwo magazine: “It’s five years now since I retired, but I don’t miss playing.
“I do sometimes think, ‘Well, it would be nice to go and play for a bit’, but I’m not anxious about it.
“I’m retired, comfortable, I do thinks I enjoy and have a great time.
“At the World Cup, I worked as an ambassador for FIFA Hospitality, which I was happy about, because I was treated so well.
“Today I enjoy watching good games, and it’s not a problem that I don’t go onto the pitch any more.”
Sergio is incredibly proud of his record at Manchester City.
He said: “My objective at the beginning of my time at City was to win titles, and that’s how it went.
“The goals helped me start to break records, like the most hat-tracks in Premier League history, the most goals in Manchester City history, and the most goals by a foreign player in the Premier League.
“It just happened by itself, and as the years went by, I wanted to keep breaking more and more records.
“It happened the way it was meant to – by doing things the way I had been doing them, I knew I was going to break records.”
While it’s been more than five years since he left City, Sergio is still keen for them to do well because it boosts his own legacy.
He explained: “I left in 2021 after 10 happy years, but I want City to continue to be successful.
“If they keep winning titles and signing great players, even now, that continues to increase my legacy at the club.
“If they go down the wrong path, people won’t talk about City as much any more.
“The longer City are at the top, the more people talk about the club and the more they talk of those of us who played for the club.
“For myself and the other guys I played with, our names will continue to be up there.”
