Jose Mourinho hailed Kylian Mbappe’s “insane” talent after the forward hit a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad.

The French forward’s treble maintained Los Blancos’ perfect start to the new La Liga campaign and left the Special One singing his praises after Wednesday’s (26.08.26) match.

Mourinho told Real Madrid TV: “There’s something I don’t like doing, but sometimes I have to do: I don’t like to talk about individuals, but what Kylian did…it was insane.

“Mbappe has a knack for scoring, for creating chances… when the team is under pressure, he’s able to drop deep and link up with Vini (Jr) and Jude (Bellingham), gaining ground and creating danger.”

Mourinho backed Mbappe to make “history” for Real after he became the World Cup’s all-time top goalscorer as he won the Golden Boot for France at the tournament in North America.

The Portuguese coach said in his press conference: “This bloke is incredible. He’s incredible. I’m really glad he made history at the World Cup because only one player is truly for the ages, the one with the most World Cup goals.

“I can see he’s absolutely raring to make history with Real Madrid. I’ve seen a team where, even though Kylian is Kylian and has done what he’s done.

“Mbappe arrived two days before his holidays were expected to finish, and those two extra days in pre-season can make a positive difference.”

The game marked Mourinho’s first match at the Bernabeu since making his return as Real boss, although he would prefer the fans to sing about his players instead of him.

He said: “The first match at the Bernabeu was calm. I don’t get very nervous or tense before matches anymore. I enjoyed it a lot. The last time I came here with Benfica, I stayed in the garage watching the game. Today is the first time I’ve been in the new Bernabeu.

“I’m not a fan of them chanting my name. The team is the most important thing, and feeling the support is what matters most to me. I’m very happy with the players’ feelings after playing their first home match, winning well, the fans going home smiling, and tomorrow we train because Malaga is coming on Sunday (30.08.26).”
