Josh Kerr is striving to “push the limits” at the Commonwealth Games.
The Scottish runner cruised through his men’s mile heat on Wednesday (29.07.26) to progress to the final in Glasgow and expressed his desire to attract more “eyeballs” to the sport after he set a new world record in the event earlier this month at the Diamond League meet in London.
Kerr said: “Obviously coming off of a high emotionally in the last 10 days or so, I just wanted to get a good run out and hopefully not feel super fatigued.
“So that’s what that felt like, a nice little cut down in the last 600 and yeah, the legs felt great.
“I love that more and more people keep buying in and watching the sport and enjoying us pushing the limits, and hopefully it will get more and more people’s eyeballs on it, so I am excited to keep doing that.”
Kerr will attempt to win his first Commonwealth Games medal on home soil in Saturday’s (01.08.26) final and believes that he is well-placed to come out on top.
The athlete said: “This is everything I wanted it to be. The milers have shown up and it is a great field out there, and I am just excited to be a part of that and battle for a Commonwealth Games gold medal on Saturday.
“I think going after fast times is one thing, but I am obviously known as a championship racer and that didn’t change all too much.
“Obviously London was a huge priority, but it sets us up really well for championship-style racing, so yeah, we are in a good spot.”
