Mikel Arteta found lifting the Premier League to be a “beautiful” moment.
The Arsenal boss admitted that narrow misses in previous seasons made their title triumph even sweeter, and Arteta relished the trophy lift, after the Gunners defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 in their final game of the league season.
The former club captain – who is now preparing his side for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain – told Arsenal.com on the pitch at Selhurst Park: “It’s an amazing feeling.
“I’ve been trying to go through this moment a few times, but I could never expect it to be that big, to be that beautiful, and to see so much joy and pride amongst all the people and our supporters.
“I think sometimes you need to reflect on that, because everything has happened so fast and in such a special way as well. But I really want to enjoy this moment, at least today.
“Tomorrow we’ll start to prepare for the final in Budapest, and I can’t wait to write a new chapter in the history of our football club.”
Arteta explained that he’d imagined lifting the Premier League trophy at home, at the Emirates Stadium.
And the Spaniard now hopes to use the “energy, positivity and confidence” of their title win as they prepare for the Champions League final.
He said: “I thought we were going to win it at Emirates Stadium at some point, and it happened in a completely different manner to what anyone expected. But it was magical being around the players, your family and having some time to reflect.
“We lived that again today. We’ll have the parade after the final of the Champions League as well, so what a moment.
“We’re going to use all this energy, positivity and confidence that we have into that pitch in Budapest, and win it.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard admitted to feeling “so proud” after lifting the Premier League.
The midfielder told Arsenal.com: “It feels unreal – hard to put it into words, but just so proud, happy and emotional.
“It’s a crazy, crazy feeling. Walking up towards the trophy and just realising everything is a mad feeling. I’m just so proud of everyone for the way we did it and everything we’ve been through, and to finally get over the line just means the world to everyone, so I’m so happy.”
