Former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will feel an “emptiness in the stomach” if the club are relegated from the Premier League.
The businessman stepped down as chairman of the north London club after 24 years last September and admits that he will be devastated should Spurs drop into the second tier for the first time since 1977.
Levy, who was presented with a CBE for services to charity and community at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (13.05.26), told ITV News: “Like every fan (relegation would leave me with an) emptiness in the stomach. But we will bounce back. Let’s be optimistic and hope that doesn’t happen.
“I just hope at this moment in time that Tottenham manages to remain in the Premier League.”
Spurs sit just two points above the drop zone with two matches left and Levy is “optimistic” that Roberto De Zerbi’s side can hold off London rivals West Ham and stave off relegation.
He said: “I’m optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League. I think Tottenham has a great coach, and all the fans and all the employees and everyone now is behind this coach… Let’s hope that the players can do it for the last two games.”
Levy was presented with his CBE by Prince William and explained that the pair discussed football, the upcoming World Cup, and the royal’s beloved Aston Villa.
He joked: “I thanked him very well for allowing us to beat Aston Villa a few weeks ago.”
Levy surprisingly stepped down as Spurs chairman last year but has plenty of fond memories of his time at the Premier League club.
He said: “I was there for over 24 years and we had so many memorable occasions, the Champions League final, early on, being in Europe many years, opening the stadium, there have been so many achievements.”
