Moses Itauma thinks Jermaine Franklin is the “perfect fight” to prove himself as a boxer.
The 21-year-old fighter, who has just 13 professional bouts to his name but is already building an impressive reputation, has opened up on this weekend’s clash against one of the top names in the game.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s a good fight. I think Jermaine Franklin’s the perfect fight, what he does so well [are where] there’s question marks on myself. So I guess I’m excited.
“He’s durable, he’s game, he throws hands, he’s fast, so yeah he’s a lot.”
Itauma is hoping to make a statement with Saturday’s (28.03.26) fight.
He added: “Not only do I want to prove it to the fans and to the public, I want to prove to myself that I can do what I think I can do.”
Meanwhile, Itauma noted he’s been waiting for this fight for a long time, having been recovering from an injury since August.
He struggled to find an opponent for December, and then the next month he suffered “an incident in sparring” which halted the plans.
He explained: “I haven’t had no time out, I’ve still been in the gym, it’s just I haven’t been under the bright lights. But I’ve still been training. It’s not like I’ve been resting.
“It’s the same old, sparring, running, lifting weights, getting punched, punching people, the same thing it’s just now I’ve got to tailor to Jermaine Franklin.”
Itauma is hoping to help his own future heavyweight championship credentials, having already been ranked with the WHO and WBA.
Franklin has gone the distance with Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua, making him an ideal opponent for the youngster to test himself against.
