Morgan Rogers believes “hard work and a smile” are the key to success.
The Aston Villa midfielder insisted there is no particular moment that propelled him to success and he thinks feeling happy on the pitch stops self-doubt and distraction from seeping in.
He told FourFourTwo magazine: “To get to where you are, I like to think you do more than just the individual action that people see.
“It’s more of a period of time, as opposed to a specific goal that you scored – more of a feeling, more of an emotion.
“Hard work and a smile, it’s something so simple.
“People try to build it up as, ‘It can be this, it can be that’, or, ‘You’ve got to improve this and that’.
“I think it comes back to how you feel when you go out there, the feeling you have when you play the game.
“If you’re at your happiest, smiling and working as hard as you can, there’s nothing more you can give.
“You go home feeling you’ve done everything and you can live with the result of whether you’re good enough or not.
“When your mind takes you elsewhere and you’re maybe not applying yourself because you’re upset or disappointed, that’s where a problem can come from within.
“If you give your all and you’re smiling, your best naturally comes out.”
The 23-year-old sportsman is “massively proud” of his career so far, but still feels he can be better.
He said: “I’m massively proud.
“It’s been a lot of hard work, dedication, and a lot of people helping me – my family, my friends.
“It’s been fun, but I know I’ve got more to give, I know I can get better and that’s all I’m focused on.
“I just focus on the next thing. I don’t want to dwell now, because I’ll probably take a step back and not move forward.”
