Lando Norris says ignoring his detractors has been key to his strong F1 form.

The British driver took a significant step towards winning a first world title with victory at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday (09.11.25) and suggested that blocking outside noise allowed him to perform imperiously in Brazil.

Asked for the reason behind his excellent run of form, Norris said: “Just ignore everyone that talks c*** about you and focus on yourself.

“I care a lot about, let’s say, people’s perspective and how I’m portrayed and things in the media. And I probably cared too much.

“Even at the beginning of the year, I think I cared too much and probably was affecting me in not the best ways. And I just learned to deal with those things better.”

Norris now leads McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri by 24 points at the top of the championship but isn’t resting on his laurels with only three races remaining this season.

The racer said: “We are pushing hard every single weekend and I’m pushing hard away from the track.

“It is rewarding because it doesn’t come easy. To be honest, I don’t think we were the quickest today but I’m glad to take home the win. It has been a perfect weekend.”

Norris is also wary of the threat posed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen – who is 49 points behind in the championship but recovered to finish on the podium in third despite starting from the pit lane for the race at Interlagos.

Quizzed on whether he is allowing himself to dream of championship glory, he said: “No, not at all.

“It is a great win but seeing how close Max was, it is disappointing that we were not quicker today.

“That is where my mindset is at the moment. There is a long way to go and it can change so quickly. I will focus on myself, keep my head down, ignore everyone else and keep pushing.”
