Carlos Alcaraz has the “motivation” to win his first ATP Finals crown.

The Spanish tennis star beat Alex de Minaur in his opening match in Turin on Sunday (09.11.25) and is desperate to add the season-ending event to his haul of titles at the end of a gruelling year.

Alcaraz – who is vying for the year-end world number one ranking with rival Jannik Sinner – said: “Obviously, this tournament is one of the best tournaments that we have on tour without a doubt.

“We’re playing against the best eight players in the world. That shows how difficult and important this tournament is.

“I’ve been struggling the last three years to come to the end of the year with energy, with motivation. This year is a little bit different.

“I’m really proud of the way I’ve been doing things to come here with motivation. I’m just really excited and looking forward to playing great tennis and giving myself the shot to try to win this tournament.”

Alcaraz was “happy” with the way he played against the Australian as he bids to get the victories to preserve his narrow advantage over Sinner at the top of the world rankings.

The six-time Grand Slam champion said: “As everybody knows, I’m fighting for not only the trophy but for the No. 1 [world ranking] as well, so I’m just really happy with the way that I played today.

“I was focused on all my goals against someone like Alex; he’s really difficult to play against. I’m happy to get my first win and excited for what’s next.

“It was a really difficult match. On this surface, Alex makes the most of the speed of the ball; he’s super fast and really difficult on the return.

“I’m just really happy to get through this really difficult challenge, and happy with how I’m playing.”
