Daniel Levy has stepped down as Tottenham Hotspur executive chairman.
The 63-year-old businessman has held the role since 2001 but revealed on Thursday (04.09.25) he is leaving the role with immediate effect.
He said in a statement: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees,” said Levy, who had a reputation in football for being a shrewd operator and tough negotiator.
“We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community.
“I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.
“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”
Insiders told Sky Sports News that while the move has further fuelled speculation Spurs’ majority shareholders, the Lewis family, are planning to sell up, that isn’t the case and they are committed to the long-term future of the London club.
A source said: “Generations of the Lewis family support this special football club and they want what the fans want – more wins more often.
“This is why you have seen recent changes, new leadership and a fresh approach. In Vinai (Venkatesham), Thomas (Frank) and Peter Charrington, they believe they are backing the right team to deliver on this. This is a new era.”
Daniel had been the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League after purchasing a stake in Spurs from Lord Alan Sugar in December 2000.
Peter Charington is stepping into a newly-created role of non-executive chairman, having joined the club in March as a non-executive director.
A club statement added: “This is all part of the club’s ambition to ensure that it is set up to deliver long-term sporting success… There are no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the club.”
